Employed at H.J. Baker for more than thirty-seven years, Christopher Smith is the President and Chief Executive Officer of H.J. Baker & Bro., LLC.
H.J. Baker & Bro., LLC. is a family-owned business, established in 1850. Over the course of these 170 years, H.J. Baker has been involved in the Food and Agriculture industry from partnering with oil refiners to safely handle, process and transport Sulphur to international markets; developing best uses of food production by-products; and production and sale of specialty and commodity fertilizers, all as innovative and vital inputs to the precision agriculture practices of today. Baker's global footprint includes teams in sales offices and production locations across North America, Europe and Asia.
Mr. Smith serves as a Director of H.J. Baker and is currently the Chairman of The Sulphur Institute, headquartered in Washington, D.C. Prior Board positions include: Brickell Bank, the A&F Investing Co., the Bank of Fairfield, Trinity Episcopal Church, and the Eagle Hill School.
Mr. Smith learned the business of H.J. Baker from the bottom up, beginning his career as a distribution clerk and as a trader in the Feed Division. He later spent time in the company’s Chicago office becoming familiar with the fertilizer business and feed markets. Upon returning to the corporate office, then in New York City, Mr. Smith was promoted to Executive Vice President and helped lead the family business to an era of growth and increased profitability.
Mr. Smith holds a B.A. in English from Susquehanna University and has continued his professional education throughout his career via industry-specific programming.
